Is it ok ironing something on felt?

i have like those t-shirt transfer papers im ironing everything my shirts and a whole lot of other stuff but one day i see on the tv show la ink, kat got her car tricked out and on the roof the had a picture of beethoven. my question is that would it be ok using a transfer paper on the roof of your car felt or would it mess up? i kno they didnt use transfer paper becuz using them you can see the excess of it (the clear uninked part) it was like a decal sticker but embedded on the felt. how did they do it? anyways please answer i dnt want to do it if its gonna burn up
