Chloroform Question After Watching Movie?

I just watched this movie where I person was knocked out by chloroform. I know it makes you unconscious. But before she was knocked up she ingested some sleeping pills. So already this person is on a downslope. Can a person die just from a chloroform rag? Would it be less painful since they are unconscious? No smart answers. I am looking for detail. The movie ended with the woman recovering in the hospital. Just wondering about the effects of chloroform. Thanks
